Elaine (President) welcomed everyone to the Marine Hotel.
The minutes of the last meeting were signed and given to Allie Powell (Secretary)
President’s Address:
Elaine thanked those members who have come forward to learn about the committee and explained the commitment involved in being a committee member. Information has been printed off detailing the roles of President, Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President and is available to all members.
The speakers programme for next year is nearing completion and will be circulated by December/January.
Forms re: GDPR need to be completed soon as November is MCS month and all members details are required by then in order for them to be submitted to NFWI.
The sub subscription rate for next year will be £42 for full membership and £20.50 for dual .
The committee invite you on a day trip to Greenwich on Wednesday 7th November. A deposit of £10 is asked for. This will be returned on the day of the trip but if you do not go on the day, the deposit will become non-returnable.
Christmas lunch is on Wednesday 4th December, menus have been circulated to all members and names/deposits can now be taken.
Karen P. has been in touch with Revival and the proposed date for a meal/dance there is 8th December. Cost is £30 for a 3 course meal and glass of wine. Anyone interested please contact Karen.
Thank you to all who have donated sanitary products together with men’s clothing for The Haven Project.
The Pinneries group met with Canterbury foodbank charity last week to hand over dozens of Morsbags which they had made. These will be used by the charity instead of plastic bags to provide food to those in need. Thank you so much for your efforts.
Members are invited to tea/coffee and cakes at Swalecliffe & Chestfield Community Centre on Monday 1st October 2-4 pm. There is no charge for this event. Members can display/sell their craft items on the day. A donation of 10% of total sales is asked for which will go to Oyster funds.
NFWI & Sports England have put together a programme for Walking Netball. This will be rolled out countrywide, any members interested please contact Elaine.
Elaine will be taking part in the Pilgrims Hospice walk all donations gratefully received.
An update on the campaign to End Plastic Soup has been received
Details of the annual Photographic Competition have been received with this year’s theme being “East Kent Buildings”. Closing date is Friday 26th October.
Birthday wishes were sung to Viv C. Pam T. Pat O. Also Val G. Linda H. Sue J. Jan Dodney whose birthdays are before the next meeting.

Speaker: How a Magistrate Court Works
Jan Modell introduced Mandy who she works with as a magistrate. They explained how a court works and what type of cases they deal with. The court was set up in the 1300 hundreds and there are now over 20,000 serving magistrates with three regional branches in Kent. All court cases come to them first and are then passed on as necessary. They gave examples of various cases and then gave members one to consider and to make a verdict. This led to lively discussion and different verdicts. A very interesting talk and thanks to both ladies was given.
AOB; There will be an open day at Whitstable Fire station for the public to go along and learn/refresh skills on life saving on Tuesday 16th October.
